Genius you say, yes we would have to agree.<\/p>\n<p>What you will need to create this fantastic outdoor BBQ is as follows:<\/p>\n<p>Tools<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Grinder<\/li>\n<li>Mitre Saw<\/li>\n<li>Power Drill<\/li>\n<li>Planer<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Materials<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Tyre rim \u2013 the bigger, the better I always say<\/li>\n<li>High heat paint \u2013 a couple of tins should do the job<\/li>\n<li>4\u201d x 4\u201d x 86\u201d<\/li>\n<li>5\/8\u201d bolts<\/li>\n<li>Wheels \u2013 so you can easily move this bad boy around the yard<\/li>\n<li>\u00bd\u201d lag bolts<\/li>\n<li>1 1\/2 \u2018 Steel black pipe<\/li>\n<li>\u00bd\u201d threaded rods\/hardware<\/li>\n<li>Grill grate of various sizes<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Step 1<br \>\nnPrepare the tyre so you can create the grill<\/h2>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.toolmateshire.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/tm-tyre-grill-2-348x422-4953916.jpg\" alt=\"tm-tyre-grill-2-348x422-4953916\" \> <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.toolmateshire.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/tm-tyre-grill-3-348x422-9033020.jpg\" alt=\"tm-tyre-grill-3-348x422-9033020\" \> <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.toolmateshire.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/tm-tyre-grill-4-348x422-9519235.jpg\" alt=\"tm-tyre-grill-4-348x422-9519235\" \> <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.toolmateshire.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/tm-tyre-grill-5-348x422-5206933.jpg\" alt=\"tm-tyre-grill-5-348x422-5206933\" \><\/p>\n<p>This step almost broke me, so I have a quick tip here\u2026if you are not patient, take it over to your local tyre store and ask them to simply remove the tyre from the rim for you \u2013 rather than working on this for hours as you get nowhere, getting your local tyre shop will save you so much time and they will more than likely do it for you for free.<\/p>\n<p>Not realising this option, we ended up using a reciprocating saw with a metal cutting blade to get it started, then using a threaded rod &amp; large screwdriver we eventually got this thing off \u2013 my advice\u2026get the experts to do it and save your precious spare time!<\/p>\n<p>Once you have done this, you need to have the rim sandblasted to remove the rust and grime from the outer layer. Experts can work on the rim and get it looking shiny for about $30 \u2013 if you have a quick look, there should be one in your local industrial estate. My local hardware store was able to assist me in getting this done using a threading machine \u2013 but you can also do this by purchasing pre-done pipe or borrowing a threader from Toolmates to get the job done right.<\/p>\n<p>The flange needed a little love, as you will need to widen the holes to accommodate the 5\/8\u201d head bolts. But other than that it is all down to painting to get your tyre in tip-top shape.<\/p>\n<p>When it comes to the painting, we used high heat paint that is designed especially for BBQ\u2019s or materials that are going to be cooked on \u2013 this is important as you don\u2019t want people getting caseinogens from your steaks.<\/p>\n<p>Simply spray your tyre rims, the pipe &amp; bolts applying a couple of coats and using paper towel we wiped around the baring\u2019s to make sure they would seize up with the paint.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Step 3<br \>\nnCreate your base<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.toolmateshire.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/tm-tyre-grill-15-348x422-6542012.jpg\" alt=\"tm-tyre-grill-15-348x422-6542012\" \> <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.toolmateshire.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/tm-tyre-grill-16-348x422-5067267.jpg\" alt=\"tm-tyre-grill-16-348x422-5067267\" \> <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.toolmateshire.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/tm-tyre-grill-17-348x422-8584856.jpg\" alt=\"tm-tyre-grill-17-348x422-8584856\" \> <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.toolmateshire.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/tm-tyre-grill-18-348x422-1672548.jpg\" alt=\"tm-tyre-grill-18-348x422-1672548\" \> <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.toolmateshire.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/tm-tyre-grill-19-348x422-9182242.jpg\" alt=\"tm-tyre-grill-19-348x422-9182242\" \> <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.toolmateshire.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/tm-tyre-grill-20-348x422-9933562.jpg\" alt=\"tm-tyre-grill-20-348x422-9933562\" \> <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.toolmateshire.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/tm-tyre-grill-21-348x422-3183352.jpg\" alt=\"tm-tyre-grill-21-348x422-3183352\" \> <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.toolmateshire.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/tm-tyre-grill-22-348x422-3523414.jpg\" alt=\"tm-tyre-grill-22-348x422-3523414\" \> <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.toolmateshire.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/tm-tyre-grill-23-348x422-3043550.jpg\" alt=\"tm-tyre-grill-23-348x422-3043550\" \> <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.toolmateshire.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/tm-tyre-grill-24-348x422-6856046.jpg\" alt=\"tm-tyre-grill-24-348x422-6856046\" \><\/p>\n<p>By now you have lugged your tyre rim around enough to know that they are very heavy, so remember to lift from the knees guys, not your back. We used 4\u201d x 4\u201d timber to ensure we had the strengths. Cut the timber to length, we ensured that we created a square structure, using the mitre saw.<\/p>\n<p>Drill holes through the ends join the pieces of timber with the bolts &amp; washers on the threaded rods &amp; grind them back the protruding rod to give us a nice flush finish. Attach the flange to the tyre rim using smooth top bolts, ensuring that the lips of the bolt are connecting with as much surface area as possible \u2013 you don\u2019t want them falling through, or your grill will come tumbling down \u2013 and who wants that when you\u2019re cooking your steaks!<\/p>\n<p>Cover the whole pipe with a 1\u201d cap, so you don\u2019t lose anything down there. Again, paint this with your heat resistant paint and ensure it gets a good coating.<\/p>\n<p>Drill your wheels into the backside of the base to move around the hard as between the rim, timber of the base and the grill gates these things are heavy.<\/p>\n<p>Using the hole there the valve used to come through for the tyre, we connected a carabineer clip with bolts to hang your tongs from which is also super handy.<\/p>\n<h2>Step 5<br \>\nnReady, set, grill<\/h2>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.toolmateshire.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/tm-tyre-grill-35-348x422-7934360.jpg\" alt=\"tm-tyre-grill-35-348x422-7934360\" \> <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.toolmateshire.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/tm-tyre-grill-36-348x422-9518188.jpg\" alt=\"tm-tyre-grill-36-348x422-9518188\" \> <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.toolmateshire.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/tm-tyre-grill-37-570x349-8271052.jpg\" alt=\"tm-tyre-grill-37-570x349-8271052\" \> <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.toolmateshire.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/tm-tyre-grill-38-348x422-5261452.jpg\" alt=\"tm-tyre-grill-38-348x422-5261452\" \> <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.toolmateshire.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/tm-tyre-grill-39-348x422-6845138.jpg\" alt=\"tm-tyre-grill-39-348x422-6845138\" \> <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.toolmateshire.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/tm-tyre-grill-40-348x422-2411518.jpg\" alt=\"tm-tyre-grill-40-348x422-2411518\" \> <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.toolmateshire.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/tm-tyre-grill-41-348x422-3833342.jpg\" alt=\"tm-tyre-grill-41-348x422-3833342\" \> <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.toolmateshire.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/tm-tyre-grill-42-348x422-7423557.jpg\" alt=\"tm-tyre-grill-42-348x422-7423557\" \><\/p>\n<p>This can be tricky to find, however to solve our problem we went to eBay and found a grate to fit on the low side of the grill which was a little lower quality \u2013 but this was fine as it holds the charcoal.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, you need a food grade grill for the top \u2013 which we had shipped from interstate, but fit when it arrived it fit perfectly.<\/p>\n<p>This grill can be your primary BBQ, used as a smoker or just as a great add-on for when extra people come around on Boxing Day to watch the cricket.
