From making phone calls, tracking your latest run on the GPS through to even doing such wonderful tasks as, well\u2026telling the time \u2013 the Apple watch is a phenomenon.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s easy to charge the watch on your nightstand on the charge provided, but sadly they don\u2019t look all that visually appealing. So why not make it look amazing, like something from nature with a little bit of DIY.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>So, what will you<\/strong> need?<\/h2>\n<p>To get your Apple Watch clock dock started here is what you need to gather:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tools<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A small hand saw<\/li>\n<li>A drill<\/li>\n<li>Pocket Knife<\/li>\n<li>1\u201d diameter drill bit<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Step 1 \u2013 Find a log and get started<\/h2>\n<p>Take a wander into your local park or garden \u2013 make sure you have permission to cut there (or no one sees you) you need to find a log that is not too different in size to your wrist. Also, if they have a knob or two in it, this would also be helpful to mount the watch as we will show you in the next few steps.<\/p>\n<h2>Step 2 \u2013 Get cutting<\/h2>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.toolmateshire.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/apple-watch-clock-dock_1-570x422-2628328.jpg\" alt=\"apple-watch-clock-dock_1-570x422-2628328\" \><\/p>\n<p>Firstly, use the handsaw to cut the log at 90 degrees, then move a few inches down \u2013 or as high as you want your stand to be \u2013 and make a second cut down so you have a piece that suits your end use.<\/p>\n<h2>Step 3 \u2013 Clean it up<\/h2>\n<p>Now you can see your smart watch stand starting to take shape, you\u2019re in business. Using a pocket knife, clean up the log so that all the loose skin and bark is removed. If you want that smooth look, then use fine grit sandpaper to strip it back and make the log nice to the touch.<\/p>\n<h2>Step 4 \u2013 Drill the charging holes<\/h2>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.toolmateshire.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/apple-watch-clock-dock_3-570x422-1471245.jpg\" alt=\"apple-watch-clock-dock_3-570x422-1471245\" \> <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.toolmateshire.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/apple-watch-clock-dock_4-570x422-9897357.jpg\" alt=\"apple-watch-clock-dock_4-570x422-9897357\" \><\/p>\n<p>Pick you location you want your watch to be stored at. If you have found a few knots that are suitable for your watch these will be great to assist in supporting the weight of the watch. Drill a 1\u201d diameter hole no deeper than 1\/8\u201d which will allow you to put the charging put inside.<\/p>\n<h2>Step 5 \u2013 Drill in the USB cord hole<\/h2>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.toolmateshire.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/apple-watch-clock-dock_4-570x422-9897357.jpg\" alt=\"apple-watch-clock-dock_4-570x422-9897357\" \> <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.toolmateshire.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/apple-watch-clock-dock_5-570x422-1686470.jpg\" alt=\"apple-watch-clock-dock_5-570x422-1686470\" \><\/p>\n<p>Drill upwards 2 x 5\u201d16 holes at an angle from the flat bottom, these should be drilled next to each other and hollowed out to form a slot for the USB to come through.<\/p>\n<h2>Step 6 \u2013 Cut in the groove for puck cord<\/h2>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.toolmateshire.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/apple-watch-clock-dock_6-570x422-9754540.jpg\" alt=\"apple-watch-clock-dock_6-570x422-9754540\" \><\/p>\n<p>Now a small grove needs to be made between the USB slot and the front of the dock. Using a 5\/16\u201d drill bot, the rotary tool cut the groove will do the trick. You want it to be deep, so you don\u2019t bend the cord when it pokes out of the back<\/p>\n<h2>Step 7 \u2013 Drill a hole for magnets<\/h2>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.toolmateshire.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/apple-watch-clock-dock_7-570x422-9698434.jpg\" alt=\"apple-watch-clock-dock_7-570x422-9698434\" \><\/p>\n<p>To ensure that you charger stays in place, drill a small hole with a 5\/8\u201d drill bit at only a \u00bc\u201d depth. Place a small magnet behind it to assist in keeping the dock in place.<\/p>\n<h2>Step 8 \u2013 Drill your dowel hole<\/h2>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.toolmateshire.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/apple-watch-clock-dock_8-570x422-9919565.jpg\" alt=\"apple-watch-clock-dock_8-570x422-9919565\" \><\/p>\n<p>If you have more than one charger, then you can set it up permanently, however, if you only have one, you\u2019ll need to have access to it. As such, drill a hole through the log with a 25\/64\u201d hole through the log.<\/p>\n<h2>Step 9 \u2013 Get the dowel organised<\/h2>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.toolmateshire.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/apple-watch-clock-dock_9-570x422-6420271.jpg\" alt=\"apple-watch-clock-dock_9-570x422-6420271\" \> <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.toolmateshire.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/apple-watch-clock-dock_10-570x422-4382939.jpg\" alt=\"apple-watch-clock-dock_10-570x422-4382939\" \><\/p>\n<p>With a 3\/8\u201d dowel, we cut it in length and drilled a screw in to ensure it attaches to the magnet &amp; holds it in place when its inserted, not to mention it allows the cord to be also held in place.<\/p>\n<h2>Step 10 \u2013 Insert the puck<\/h2>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.toolmateshire.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/apple-watch-clock-dock_12-570x422-9274555.jpg\" alt=\"apple-watch-clock-dock_12-570x422-9274555\" \> \u00a0<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.toolmateshire.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/apple-watch-clock-dock_13-570x422-3170371.jpg\" alt=\"apple-watch-clock-dock_13-570x422-3170371\" \><\/p>\n<p>With the dowel in place and the head of the screw protruding, put the magnet in place and insert the puck. Then thread the USB cable through the log and the press the puck into place.<\/p>\n<h2>Step 11 \u2013 Create a ledge for a watch<\/h2>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.toolmateshire.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/apple-watch-clock-dock_13-570x422-3170371.jpg\" alt=\"apple-watch-clock-dock_13-570x422-3170371\" \> <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.toolmateshire.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/apple-watch-clock-dock_14-570x422-6031718.jpg\" alt=\"apple-watch-clock-dock_14-570x422-6031718\" \><\/p>\n<p>With your pen knife, create a ledge for the watch to sit on below the charger. This will be the perfect space for your watch to lay while you are having a snooze.<\/p>\n<h2>Step 12 \u2013 Drill some holes for pens<\/h2>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.toolmateshire.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/apple-watch-clock-dock_15-570x422-6668088.jpg\" alt=\"apple-watch-clock-dock_15-570x422-6668088\" \><\/p>\n<p>Why have it only single functional? Drill a hole in the top &amp; hollow it out so you can keep pens in there by your bed.<\/p>\n<h2>Step 13 \u2013 Oil &amp; enjoy<\/h2>\n<p>Finally, apply a few coats of Danish oil, stain or pain if you want to seal the clock dock and you\u2019re home and hosed. Then once it\u2019s dry, plug in and enjoy. Not only is it functional, but it works as a beside clock, pen holder and looks great.
